Saturday, October 10, 2009 ROME/BASILICAS Arrive Rome at 7:45 in the morning where we will be welcomed by our tour escort and bus driver. Transfer to the Basilica of St. Mary Major for mass and afterwards, we visit the Basilica of St. John in Lateran and the Holy Stairs, before going to our hotel to rest and later dinner and overnight.
Sunday, October 11, 2009 CANONIZATION CELEBRATION/ROME Transfer to the Vatican City to join pilgrims from all over the world and celebrate with them the canonization of our beloved Father Damien de Veuster. After the canonization, we will visit St. Peter’s Basilica and the crypt of Pope John Paul II and the remainder of the afternoon we will have time at leisure on our own to explore the places around the Vatican City and do some shopping before returning to our hotel.
Monday, October 12, 2009 ROME/MONTECASSINO/POMPEII/SAN GIOVANNI ROTONDO We depart Rome in the morning and drive to Montecassino, a beautiful town founded by St. Benedict in 529. Continue to Pompeii to visit the ancient city and the beautiful Basilica of the Rosary. Continue to San Giovanni Rotondo.
Tuesday, October 13, 2009 SAN GIOVANNI ROTONDO/LANCIANO/ASSISI Today we see the places associated with St. Pio and then drive to Lanciano, where the first Eucharistic Miracle took place in the 8th century in the little Church of Legontian. Continue to Assisi to explore the hilltop birthplace of St. Francis. In the crypt of St. Francis Basilica lies the tomb of one of the most beloved saints of all time. See the Basilica of St. Clare and the Basilica of St. Mary of the Angels and the Porziuncola, located on the lower part of Assisi.
Wednesday, October 14, 2009 ASSISI/FLORENCE Depart Assisi to Florence. Upon arrival, we visit Florence, the splendid capital of Tuscany. Our guided tour will include a visit to the magnificent Santa Maria Del Fiore, Giotto’s bell tower; the Baptistery’s heavy bronze “Gate of Paradise” and sculpture studded Signoria Square. We will have some time to browse through the shops in Piazza Santa Croce before going to the hotel.
Thursday, October 15, 2009 FLORENCE/NICE After breakfast, we depart and drive through scenic Italy towards France. En route we stop for pictures of the Municipality of Monaco and Monte Carlo and then to our hotel in Nice. This evening we will enjoy a walk on the Boulevard des Anglais on the Mediterranean Coast.
Friday, October 16, 2009 NICE/LOURDES After breakfast, we take our motor coach and drive through scenic country side of France. Arrive Lourdes in the afternoon. After dinner, we join pilgrims in the nightly rosary and candlelight procession.
Saturday, October 17, 2009 LOURDES During our stay in Lourdes, we will visit the historical and spiritual sites associated with Bernadette, the visionary child of Lourdes. We will take a walking tour of the Shrine, the Basilica of St. Pius X, the world’s largest underground church. Visit Boly Mill, the Soubirous family home, and the Basilica of the Rosary. After dinner join pilgrims in the nightly Rosary and Candlelight procession.
Sunday, October 18, 2009 LOURDES/BILBAO This morning we say good bye to Our Lady of Lourdes and drive towards Spain. Arrive Bilbao, one of the most important cities in the Basque Country. Visit the Guggenheim Museum, the Basilica of Begona, the patron saint of Bizkaia (the province where Bilbao sits), then the Church of San Nicolas, one of the best samples of Baroque architecture in the Basque country and later we see the Town Hall building which is located at the right of the bridge.
Monday, October 19, 2009 BILBAO/SANTIAGO DE COMPOSTELA This morning we depart Bilbao and drive to Santiago de Compostela that was one of the most popular pilgrimages destinations outside of Rome and Jerusalem during the Middle Ages. Visit the Cathedral where the relics of St. James the Apostle are enshrined in the crypt. We attend the pilgrim’s mass and participate in religious activities.
Tuesday, October 20, 2009 SANTIAGO DE COMPOSTELA/FATIMA After some time in Santiago de Compostela, we depart to Fatima. En route, if time permits we will stop in Coimbra to visit the Basilica with a beautiful view of the city. Arrive Fatima. After dinner, we celebrate the candlelight and rosary procession.
Wednesday, October 21, 2009 FATIMA We spend the day in and around Fatima. Visit the shrine’s grounds, the Chapel of the Apparitions and the tombs of Francisco and Jacinta. In Aljustrel and Valinhos we see the two homes of the little shepherds, site of the first and the third visit of the “Angel of Peace” and the Parish church.
Thursday, October 22, 2009 LISBON/LOS ANGELES Transfer to Lisbon Airport to take our Continental Airlines to Los Angeles. Arrive Los Angeles at 6:39pm. (For overnight in Los Angeles $130.00 per room and you may use the hotel shuttle)
Friday, October 23, 2009 LOS ANGELES/HONOLULU Take the hotel shuttle bus to Continental Airlines terminal to board CO3 at 10:00am, arriving Honolulu at 12:45pm
