Dubrovnik Sailing Adventure
Discover Southern Dalmatia,
its islands and one of the most beautiful cities of the world – Dubrovnik
8 days/7 nights Adriatic Adventure Travel program 2009
This tour is designed for those who love being active in the nature, who admire art and history, appreciate ancient architecture and local tradition. It is neither a simple sailing trip nor a strenuous trip. Daily activities are usually short and not too demanding. Dubrovnik and Elafiti shorelines are rich in history and natural variety - cliffs, caves, coves, rocks, beaches, pine forests, birds, flowers and so much more. We will explore them on a sailing yacht, in sea kayaks, on bicycle , on foot, by swimming and snorkeling.
Lopud, Kolocep and Sipan belong to Elafiti Islands Archipelago, less than an hour sailing time from Dubrovnik. They are emerald islands covered by forests, with little car traffic, with lots of sunshine and sandy beaches. Each has no more than a couple of hundred permanent residents who live in traditional stone houses with remarkable character. Tall palm trees, parks, gardens and small pathways everywhere contribute to easy-going life style. Occasionally our yachts or kayaks are escorted by friendly dolphins or tunas common in the area. The sea is blue, clear, warm and friendly.
ITINERARY
Day 1 - Sat: We will stay in Zaton Bay, in a village just outside of Dubrovnik. A pleasant first evening will be spent walking in the serene ambience of the village, tasting local seafood and wines and enjoying soft music.
Day 2 - Sun: We will sail out northwest to Sipan Island on our modern catamaran yacht for 6-10 passengers with a lot of space, comfort and very good sailing performance. Luka Sipanska on the far end of the island is a charming and romantic fishing village and bay surrounded with palm trees. It is picturesque and a favorite mooring place of sailing yachts. Sipan is the largest of Elafiti Islands and bicycles will take us to explore its landscapes, castles, chapels and monasteries. This fishing and farming island was often a target of pirates and conquerors long ago. Nowadays it attracts tourists while resisting the attacks of mass tourism.
Day 3 - Mon: After breakfast and morning coffee we sail northwest to Mljet Island National Park. The northern part of the island is covered with a dense, green forest. The Park has two beautiful salt water lakes, one with a 14 century monastery on a tiny island. We will explore them on bike and canoe, then enjoy dinner under palm trees of a lakeside pub.
Day 4 - Tue: Next we will sail to Korcula Island. The town of Korcula is a masterpiece of Mediterranean urban architecture. We shall explore it in the afternoon and spend the evening in its welcoming atmosphere.
Day 5 - Wed: After breakfast we leave the catamaran and travel to Herzegovina, for a beautiful river trip and a visit to Mostar, an old Otoman Empire trading post that retains its traditional charm. In the evening we’ll return to Zaton Bay and stay in waterfront guesthouses.
Days 6 - Thu: Kayaking to Karin Sea for more discovery and beach activities.
Days 7 - Fri: A day to relax on a beach or take an optional trip to one of national parks – Krka River or Plitvice Lakes – or a rafting trip to Cetina River.
Day 8 - Sat: Return.
